Ego Alert: COMA- Letting go, or holding on?
Ego’s common thinking: It is my duty to prolong my loved one’s life, it is wrong to allow the body to die, God is the only one that can take a life, it is a sin to disconnect the machines, I can not let go, at least I can still see her/him.
Spiritual perspective: When a person is in a coma state, where the mind can no longer function, the soul is unable to use the body as a vehicle” any longer and cannot continue it’s Earthly journey. At that point, as far as the soul is concerned, the incarnation has come to its completion, and the person will eventually die, allowing the soul to naturally return to the spirit world.
However, if the person is being kept alive by artificial means such as life support machines, the soul’s energy within the body will not be able to release itself, and will be trapped and forced to stay attached to the physical body.
This is a very unfortunate situation in which the soul is considered to be stuck”.
Of course it is natural for us to hold on to our loved ones in any way possible, and for as long as possible, however understanding coma from the perspective of the soul, will help you better understand that allowing a person to naturally die is NOT a bad thing or a sin! It is a loving, compassionate, and selfless spiritual act.
In is important to understand that in the course of the dying process, although the person’s consciousness is unable to communicate and appears to be unresponsive in any way, the soul is fully aware of all the interactions, people, and the emotions that are being expressed.
It is fully aware of its surroundings!
Keep in mind that with any death, our loved one’s soul returns home to the spirit world and is back to its natural state of peacefulness.
